2nd Alarm Struck at Bedford House Fire

June 21, 2020 11:11 Bedford, TX – 911 Dispatchers received a smell of smoke call from a resident on the city’s east side. Engine 152 was dispatched and arrived quickly checking on with nothing showing, and began their investigation. Once inside, they quickly requested a structure fire response and went to work locating the source of the smoke. Euless was requested for automatic mutual aid, but their crews were tied up on other calls, so Grapevine was next up. Engine 152 found the fire in a 2nd story attic. An attack line was stretched from their engine. As other units arrived, a supply line was secured and additional lines stretched. Truck 151 positioned closely to Engine 151, followed by reserve Engine 154, Air 151, and the Medics. While crews were working inside a mayday was called for a missing firefighter. Battalion Chief 15, in command, immediately called for a 2nd alarm. The firefighter was accounted for almost immediately after the mayday. The 2nd alarm brought more help from Grapevine as well as Hurst. The fire vented through the roof at one point, but was difficult to access due to construction and location. The new Truck 151’s platform provided a good work area and even the water curtain, normally meant to protect the bucket, was used to fight fire. The Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association was requested and responded on the rainy, Fathers Day afternoon fire. It’s believe that lightning caused the fire. There were no known injuries at post time. Bedford police officers assisted with traffic and crowd control, as well as being a scribe for Battalion 15 at the command post.
