Lightning Strikes Bedford Home

July 6, 2019 18:15 – Bedford, TX A thunderstorm moved south across the area this evening. Heavy rain, high winds, and lightning kept first responders and dispatchers busy. Bedford 911 Dispatchers received a call reporting that her neighbor’s home had been struck by lightening, and there was smoke coming from the roof. Engine 151 arrived quickly to the Morrow Green area, just a couple of blocks from Station 1. They reported heavy smoke, and quickly went to work. Truck 153 arrived and set the ladder. Crews attacked from the inside and outside, and kept the fire contained to the chimney and garage area. However, it’s likely smoke and water damaged other parts of the home. Hurst and Euless assisted on the scene, while other cities, including Colleyville, helped cover other calls in the city.

This was the first fire for the new Air 151, a light and utility truck that primarily refills air bottles on scene for member cities of the Northeast Fire Department Association. The custom built unit by SVI is based on a Ford chassis.

The Bedford Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association Rehab Team also responded to provide support for firefighters on scene.
