Grapevine Lift Fire

April 20, 2019 Grapevine, Texas – NETCOM and Grapevine 911 dispatchers received numerous calls about a fire. Several callers from a high school track meet and likely many drivers in the busy area reported the fire. Some reports were that the high school was on fire, others that a shopping center or dumpster was on fire. You could hear the 911 lines ringing in the background as dispatchers toned out their fire departments. I believe Colleyville or Grapevine police officers arrived, just before Grapevine Engine 3 and Colleyville Engine 242. It turned out to be a man lift at a construction site being used by painters that was on fire. Colleyville Battalion 24 canceled the structure fire response they had coming, but kept himself and Engine 242 on hand to help Grapevine Engine 3. Grapevine Engine 4 and Battalion 1 responded to assist. I believe they responded from D/FW Airport where they were having a CFA field day. The Genie lift involved was leaking fuel and hydraulic fluids, so crews focused much of their efforts on containing that runoff, so it wouldn’t get into storm drains. With a tire involved below, and the leaking fluids, firefighters knocked down most of the fire, but let some of it burn itself out. There were no obvious injuries or damage to the structure being built.
